Internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids and mixed hemorrhoids are hemorrhoids. Why are the symptoms different?

Yang SIE, deputy chief physician of Changsha Dongda anorectal Hospital, said that the main reason for this difference is that different people may have different types and severity of hemorrhoids, so the symptoms will be different.

First of all, hemorrhoids can be divided into internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids and mixed hemorrhoids according to the different parts of the disease. Internal hemorrhoids are generally not painful, with bloody stool and prolapse of hemorrhoids as the main symptoms. External hemorrhoids generally do not bleed, with pain and foreign body feeling as the main symptoms. There will be skin tumors of different shapes and sizes around the anus. Mixed hemorrhoids have the dual characteristics of internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids.

Yang Sie introduced that even if you get the same type of hemorrhoids, that is, the same internal hemorrhoids or the same external hemorrhoids, the symptoms will be different due to different degrees of development. Internal hemorrhoids are soft venous masses formed by the expansion and varicosis of submucosal venous plexus at the end of rectum above the anal dentate line. They can generally be divided into four stages. Hemorrhoids in phase I generally have no obvious symptoms, and occasionally have symptoms such as blood on toilet paper, blood dripping or blood ejection after defecation. However, with the gradual increase of hemorrhoids, the symptoms will gradually aggravate. If it develops to phase IV, the hemorrhoids will prolapse and cannot be returned in time, which is easy to form edema, congestion and thrombosis, and even lead to swelling, pain, erosion, necrosis and so on.

External hemorrhoids, located below the tooth line, are masses formed by external hemorrhoid venous plexus varicose or anal margin fold skin inflammation, hypertrophy, connective tissue hyperplasia or thrombus stasis. It is often divided into connective tissue external hemorrhoids, varicose external hemorrhoids, inflammatory external hemorrhoids and thrombotic external hemorrhoids. Generally, the external hemorrhoids with flesh pimples on the edge of the anus are mostly external hemorrhoids, but not all external hemorrhoids will cause anal pain. If flesh pimples are formed at the edge of the anus with pain, it is likely to form thrombotic external hemorrhoids or inflammatory external hemorrhoids. On the contrary, if flesh pimples are formed at the edge of the anus without pain, it may be connective tissue external hemorrhoids or varicose external hemorrhoids. And external hemorrhoids generally do not bleed, but sometimes they bleed due to the rupture of hemorrhoids during defecation.

Changsha Dongda anorectal Hospital reminds that internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids and mixed hemorrhoids, no matter what kind of hemorrhoids, if they are not treated in time, they will do great harm to the human body. Therefore, in case of relevant symptoms, such as bloody stool, prolapse of hemorrhoids, pain, long flesh pimples at the anal door, you should go to a professional hospital in time, and develop good living habits to avoid recurrence or aggravation of hemorrhoids. If you need to see a doctor, please make an appointment in advance.
