Chapter 2: Anti-cancer first know cancer
Section 4: Harm to the human body not discussed
4. No discussion about harm to human body
The reason why malignant tumors are "evil" is mainly due to their great destructive power and great harm to the body, and they are becoming the number one killer of mankind in the new century. Improper prevention and treatment can destroy the body and end lives. This is the main reason why people "talk about cancer". Early and mid-term cancers are generally not harmful if they do not grow in the deadly position, but there are many late complications, painful, rapid development, and symptomatic treatment effects are not ideal. Common manifestations are as follows:
(1) Destroy the function of viscera
Visceral failure is one of the causes of death in cancer patients. The cancer mass has a direct destructive effect on the organs and tissues where it is located. For example, lung cancer causes a decline in respiratory function, gastric cancer causes a decline in digestive function, liver cancer causes a decline in liver function, and kidney cancer causes a decline in kidney function.
The longer the cancer mass grows, and when there is not enough space, it will compress adjacent tissues and organs and produce compression symptoms. For example, the space of the human brain is limited. Intracranial tumors can compress normal brain tissues, causing headaches, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances. The neck space of the human body is also limited. If a thyroid tumor compresses the recurrent laryngeal nerve, it will cause hoarseness; pressure on the trachea will cause breathing difficulties; pressure on the esophagus will cause difficulty swallowing. Cancer of the head of the pancreas compresses the adjacent common bile duct and produces jaundice.
The growth of the cancerous mass into the natural cavity of the human body will cause the cavity to lose its normal function and cause blockage symptoms. For example, lung cancer blocks the bronchus and causes dyspnea, esophageal cancer blocks the esophagus and causes dysphagia, bowel cancer blocks the intestinal lumen and causes intestinal obstruction, and cholangiocarcinoma blocks the bile duct and causes jaundice.
Bone metastasis of cancer cells can cause pathological fractures. If metastasized to the thoracic and lumbar spine, it can also cause symptoms such as paraplegia and hemiplegia.
(2) Cancerous bleeding
Hemorrhage is one of the causes of death in cancer patients. The cancerous mass invades the blood vessel, causing it to rupture, causing bleeding. For example, bronchial lung cancer can cause blood in sputum or hemoptysis; rectal cancer can cause blood in the stool; kidney cancer and bladder cancer can cause painless hematuria; stomach cancer can cause melena or even hematemesis. Rupture of liver cancer can cause hemorrhage in the abdominal cavity and become critically ill.
Sometimes cancerous bleeding is easily mistaken for other diseases. Some patients in the clinic have a history of hemorrhoid bleeding. Later, it was found that the amount of bleeding was increased, and the stool was soft. I didn't pay attention to it at that time, and mistakenly thought that hemorrhoids were aggravated, and still treated according to hemorrhoids. It was not until the treatment effect was not good that I went to the higher-level hospital for examination, and finally found that the bleeding was caused by rectal cancer, which virtually delayed the treatment.
Sometimes cancerous bleeding is very secretive.
(3) Cancer pain
The incidence of cancer pain in advanced patients is higher than that of early and mid-stage patients, and the proportion of severe pain is much higher than that of early and mid-stage patients, which is related to cancer recurrence and metastasis. Research data shows that 70% to 90% of patients will have cancer pain in the advanced stage of cancer, more than 50% of patients cannot get enough pain from treatment, and 25% of cancer patients die with severe pain.
Cancer cells themselves do not cause pain, but cancer masses, including primary tumors and metastases, infiltrate and compress adjacent nerves, causing nerve endings to receive harmful stimulation and cause pain.
[Analysis] When a patient has pain, while taking analgesics, it is necessary to actively look for the cause of the pain and treat it according to the cause. Many patients, because they are concerned about the side effects of painkillers, would rather tolerate them than use them easily, but it is not necessary. Short-term use of analgesics due to pain is hardly addictive. As for gastrointestinal disorders, Chinese medicine can be used for prevention and treatment.
[Case] An elderly male patient has a massive liver cancer in the middle lobe with protruding outside the capsule. One night, I suddenly experienced severe pain in the upper right abdomen. I went to the emergency department of the hospital immediately. An ultrasound examination of the abdomen indicated: effusion in the abdominal cavity; further examination of liver CT indicated: rupture and bleeding of liver cancer. The cause of the pain was found in time. The liver cancer ruptured and caused severe pain, and blood flowed into the abdominal cavity to cause fluid accumulation. After hepatic artery chemoembolization was performed for the cause of pain, the bleeding stopped and the pain was significantly reduced.
[Analysis] When sudden severe pain occurs, it may be a critical illness such as intracranial hypertension, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, and massive hemorrhage. You should go to the hospital for treatment immediately.
Sometimes cancer pain can easily be mistaken for other diseases. If liver cancer invades the diaphragm upward, the pain can radiate to the right shoulder or right back. Some patients with liver cirrhosis have pain in the right shoulder and mistakenly believe that it is caused by frozen shoulder. In fact, it may be caused by liver cancer invading the diaphragm. Some patients have waist pain, which is thought to be caused by lumbar spondylosis, but after CT examination, it is found that it is caused by kidney cancer.
(4) Cancerous effusion
The main reason for the formation of cancerous pleural effusion is that cancer cells invade the pleura and cause the reflux disorder of the lymphatic system in the chest. Cancerous pleural fluid grows rapidly and often causes symptoms such as dyspnea, chest pain, and cough. There are many reasons for the formation of cancerous ascites, mainly including cancer cell blocking lymphatic vessels, hypoproteinemia, and portal hypertension. Cancerous ascites also grows rapidly, which can cause difficulty breathing, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, decreased urine output, and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.
(5) Cancerous fever
Cancerous fever generally refers to non-infectious fever that is directly related to malignant tumors in patients. It is common in advanced patients and mainly low-grade fever. Western medicine mainly uses non-steroidal antipyretics and analgesics for treatment. Longer taking the medicine will cause gastrointestinal mucosal erosion and bleeding, which can cause death.
[Case] An elderly male patient with advanced lung cancer, cancerous fever, low fever every day, and high nutritional consumption was treated with non-steroidal antipyretic analgesics. About 1 month later, the patient died of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Traditional Chinese medicine has outstanding advantages in treating cancerous fever, which can relieve symptoms quickly and is not easy to relapse. We follow the TCM treatment principle of "strengthening the body and eliminating the evil", formulate different treatment methods for each patient's fever characteristics, and test each effective.
[Case] According to the 2011 "Journal of Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine":
Oumou, male, 50 years old. On March 6, 2011, liver B-ultrasound and enhanced CT showed advanced liver cancer. She developed fever on March 12 and her body temperature reached 38.6°C. He received liver intervention (TACE) followed by CIK cell immunotherapy. Ward round on May 4: The patient had a fever for more than 50 days, reaching 40°C several times, and the fever was high when he was in a bad mood or angry. He has been taking Xinhuang tablets for treatment, but the fever dropped temporarily and he still had repeated fever. Moments accompanied by weight loss, fatigue, slight thirst, lack of desire to drink, loss of appetite, upper abdominal distension, poor sleep, pain in the liver area, and loose stools. The tongue is pale red, the coating is thin and white, and the pulse is thin. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "where the evil is, the qi must be deficient." Western medicine anti-tumor treatment and long-term fever damage the body's righteousness, and lack of righteousness is the main contradiction. The spleen and stomach are "the foundation of the acquired nature, the source of qi and blood metaplasia", the spleen and stomach are weak, the movement and transformation are weak, the muscles are dystrophic, so weight loss, loss of appetite, and loose stools. Diuretic treatment due to ascites results in insufficient circulating blood volume and insufficiency of the pulse tract, so thirst and thin pulse. Long-term fever, no evidence of infection after repeated inspections, consider cancerous fever, heat into the camp blood, so do not want to drink. Cancer damages the liver, and the liver's drainage is abnormal, so the heat is high when the qi is not smooth. TCM syndrome differentiation is "deficiency of both qi and yin, heat into the camp and blood, and liver failure to relieve drainage". Treatment: To replenish qi and nourish yin to strengthen the body, clear heat and cool blood to dispel evil, and also sooth the liver and regulate qi. Body temperature returned to normal after taking 2 doses of herbal medicine, and other symptoms improved. After 3 doses, the prescription was adjusted to remove heat and cool blood drugs, mainly to strengthen the body, and insisted on taking it. There was no fever again in the follow-up for 1 month. (6) Secondary infection
Infection is one of the causes of death in cancer patients. Cancer can cause a decline in immune function, and some anti-cancer treatments also reduce immunity, which makes patients with advanced cancer prone to concurrent infection. Scientists such as Inagaki of Japan conducted autopsy on 816 cancer patients and confirmed that 47% of them died of infection, of which pneumonia accounted for 51% and sepsis accounted for 38%.
Many patients with advanced cancer often experience fatigue, skinny, loss of appetite, and anemia. This is cachexia and one of the causes of death in cancer patients. The body's metabolism is abnormal and cannot absorb nutrients from the outside world, but cancer cells also take nutrients from the human body, causing the body's condition to deteriorate day by day and the whole body to fail and die.
In addition to the above seven major hazards, in theory, cancer cells have the ability to cause harm to almost all tissue cells in the human body, and the nature and extent of the hazards are different for different patients. Fully understand these hazards and lay a solid foundation for active prevention and control.
