Patient: Description of the condition (time of onset, main symptoms, hospital visits, etc.): Dr. Chen: I have not had stools in the last four months, and my stools are almost black, and my stomach is not painful. I don't know what it will be? I once had stool bleeding. I thought it might be caused by hemorrhoids. I didn't go to the hospital for an examination. Later, I didn't. But my stool started to turn a bit dark. What kind of help do you want: What checks should be done? Will it be gastrointestinal bleeding?
Chen Yan, Department of Gastroenterology, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine:
Stool is dark, first consider gastrointestinal bleeding. It is recommended that the patient go to the hospital for examination. If the occult blood is positive, colonoscopy and gastroscopy may be required. If the occult blood is normal, consider the following factors. The patient can proceed according to their own characteristics reference:
1. Food effects: eating pig red, duck blood, hairy blood and other products containing animal blood.
2. Drug effects: taking bismuth-containing drugs such as Livzon Dele, Deno, Bismuth Pectin, Jin Dele and other drugs.
3. Indigestion, especially eating darker foods
4. TCM patients with deficiency of kidney yin or water-drinking type may sometimes have dark stools. The specific cause is not clear, but it can get better after treatment.
